1. Two Evidences of the Holy Spirit

the Holy Spirit provides internal evidence of salvation through two specific experiences:

Waging War on Sin: True assurance doesn’t come from perfection, but from a persistent, “present-tense” hatred of one’s own sin. Being “led by the Spirit” means using God’s power to actively fight personal struggles (like pride, sloth, or lust) rather than settling into them.
The Cry of “Abba! Father!”: The Spirit creates an authentic, emotional, and desperate longing for God. This isn’t a programmed response but a “heart-cry” for a Father’s help, much like a prodigal son returning home.

2. The Threefold Inheritance

This Palm Sunday Message highlights eight key themes.

Foremost, Jesus is presented as the rightful Messianic King
fulfilling prophecy
as he enters Jerusalem to praise and worship
Yet, this Kingship is marked by humility over power
is misunderstood by many who expect a political liberator
This misunderstanding marks the beginning of the Passion Week
leading Jesus to a mission of peace through ultimate sacrifice
We must respond to Jesus

Luke 19:41-49 illustrates Christ’s emotional complexity. He is a king who, like a terminally ill father returning home, knows he has only one week to live. Jesus experiences a tangle of joy at his followers’ welcome and deep sorrow for the city’s fate, symbolized by Rembrandt’s paradoxical depiction of Christ.

The text reveals a three-level spiritual tragedy:

Jerusalem’s willful ignorance: rejecting the unique time of “visitation” and Jesus’ offers of peace.

The Lord’s Name (Exodus 3:13–15)

The central theme is that knowing God’s specific name and character is the key to trusting Him with our daily lives and eternal destinies.

In Scripture, a name signifies character, ability, or mission. While human parents give names as a hope for what a child might become, God’s names are definitive. When God names Himself, He is revealing the absolute truth of His nature to deepen our love and strengthen our faith.

The name Yahweh (often rendered as “LORD” in English Bibles) appears over 6,000 times in the Old Testament. It is derived from the phrase “I AM WHO I AM.” This signifies that God is not a generic deity but a specific, personal being.

God Exists: This is the most basic truth, yet most people live as if it weren’t true (treating God like “hydrogen”—present but ignored).

Self-Derived Personality and Power: No outside force created God or shaped His character. He has no beginning; He is the starting point of all reality.

God Does Not Change: Because He is not shaped by outside forces, He is not subject to change, weakness, or unforeseen circumstances. He is the “granite foundation” of our confidence.

Unlimited Source of Energy: As the Creator, all energy in the universe originates in Him. He never grows weary and does not need to be “recharged.”

Objective Truth is Crucial: God is who He is regardless of our feelings or opinions. We must strive to know Him as He truly is, not as we want Him to be.

We Must Conform to God: Creatures do not dictate terms to the Creator. Our lives should be modeled after His will and character, not the other way around.

God Drew Near in Jesus Christ: Jesus claimed the name “I AM” for Himself (John 8:58). In Christ, the absolute, infinite God became a servant to atone for sins, allowing us to know “I AM” as our Father.

Love Matters Because Without It, Nothing Else Will (vv. 1–3)

Gifts Without Love are Useless:

Sacrifice Without Love is Worthless:

Love Matters Because Love Makes Us Like Christ (vv. 4–7)

Love Matters Because Love Lasts Forever (vv. 8–13)

Spiritual gifts are partial and temporary, but love is eternal.

Illustrations of the Temporary:

Childishness: Gifts are like childish ways that are left behind when one attains maturity.

Mirrors: Our current knowledge of God is incomplete and imperfect, like looking into a dimly polished metal mirror of that era. One day, we will know God face to face and fully, just as we are fully known by Him now.

The Three-Fold Gift: Peace, Joy, and Faith

Jesus’ Peace is Unique (v. 27): His peace is not given “as the world gives,” meaning it is not based on favorable circumstances (health, wealth, security). It is a peace that “surpasses all understanding” and holds sway in spite of tribulation (John 16:33).

The Sovereignty of God

Satan’s Powerlessness (vv. 30-31): Jesus asserts that the ruler of this world (Satan) “has no claim on me.” The cross is not the result of demonic power but of Christ’s loving obedience to the Father’s command (“I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father”).

Assurance for the Believer: Because love was sovereign at history’s darkest hour (the cross), it will be sovereign in the believer’s darkest hour, providing the basis for unshakable faith.

Advent Peace as Shalom

Shalom Defined: The biblical concept of peace, Shalom, means more than just a feeling; it is a positive condition of total harmony, justice, and flourishing—nothing missing, nothing broken.

Peace as Action: The call to Advent Week 2 is to become peacemakers (“Blessed are the peacemakers”) and to work against oppression, division, and inequity, reflecting the coming Kingdom.
